On the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the Turkish Economic Congress, the first of which was held in 1923, the “Turkish Economics Congress 2023” was organized in Izmir by the Turkish Historical Society. The congress, attended by more than a hundred academics working on various periods, primarily in the fields of Seljuk, Ottoman and Republican history, was held between July 19-20, 2023. The opening speeches of the congress were made by Deputy Minister of Culture and Tourism Dr. Serdar Çam, İzmir Deputy Governor Hulusi Doğan, President of the Turkish Academy of Sciences (TÜBA) Prof. Dr. Muzaffer Şeker and President of the Turkish Historical Society Prof. Dr. Birol Çetin. The congress, where papers were presented in the fields of economic history and the history of economic thought, was attended by Muş Alparslan University, Faculty of Arts and Sciences, Department of History, Faculty Member Assoc. Serhat Aras Tuna participated with a study titled “Budget Crisis in Ottoman Rural Municipalities: Payment Problems of Physician Salaries.” Tuna addressed the health work of municipalities, which were modernization tools of the Tanzimat period, in terms of the working conditions of doctors.
