The seminar titled “An Ottoman Sultan: Fatih Sultan Mehmed,” organized by the Department of History of the Faculty of Arts and Sciences at Muş Alparslan University, was held on 14 May 2026 in classroom AS106 with strong participation. The event, in which Prof. Dr. Haşim Şahin, who has produced significant studies in his field, took part as the speaker, attracted interest not only from the students of the Department of History but also from the students of the Departments of English Language and Literature and Psychology. The program was also attended by the Dean of the Faculty of Arts and Sciences, Prof. Dr. Kasım Müminoğlu, the Vice Dean, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Murat Alanoğlu, the Head of the Department of History, Prof. Dr. Celal Öney, and academics from different departments.
In the seminar, which began at 10:00, Prof. Dr. Haşim Şahin addressed Fatih Sultan Mehmed not only in terms of his military and political achievements, but also in terms of his scholarly and intellectual character. In the talk, the personality of Fatih Sultan Mehmed, one of the most remarkable rulers of Ottoman history, his vision in state administration, his military capability, and the importance he attached to the world of learning were evaluated in a comprehensive manner. Thus, the participants had the opportunity to consider Fatih Sultan Mehmed not as a one-dimensional historical figure, but as a multidimensional ruler.
Throughout the program, which lasted approximately one hour, the questions posed by the students were also answered. In this respect, the seminar went beyond being merely an event based on the transfer of information and turned into a productive academic gathering in which the participants were actively involved in the process. The event came to an end with Prof. Dr. Celal Öney, Head of the Department of History, thanking Prof. Dr. Haşim Şahin for his contributions.
