A new book by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Celal Öney, a faculty member of the Department of History at the Faculty of Arts and Sciences, Muş Alparslan University, has been published.

While the history of European colonialism is usually narrated through the examples of Britain, France, and Spain, this book focuses on “German colonialism,” which, though short-lived, left a profound mark and holds a distinctive place among the darker chapters of world history.

The work offers an in-depth examination of Germany’s colonial policies extending from Africa to the Middle East, from the Far East to the Pacific islands. These colonial endeavors, shaped by the economic interests, military strategies, and ideological orientations of the German Empire, are analyzed comprehensively in terms of their regional consequences and impact on global dynamics.

The study not only provides a historical account but also reveals the connections between Germany’s colonial past and contemporary Germany. Within the framework of memory politics, migration, racism, and multiculturalism, it meticulously evaluates the traces of the colonial legacy in today’s social and political life.

This book serves both as an academic reference and an original contribution that fills a missing link in the history of European colonialism. By shedding light on the forgotten face of history, it offers an indispensable perspective for understanding the modern world.
