Prof. Dr. Celal Öney gave students important information on the effective use of online resources, especially YouTube and social media, in foreign language learning in the digital age.
A seminar titled “The Role of Digital Resources in Foreign Language Learning” was organized by the Department of History, Faculty of Arts and Sciences, Muş Alparslan University, with the aim of drawing attention to the role of digital resources in foreign language learning processes. In the event, which was held on 14 April 2026 at 13:30 in classroom AS106 of the Faculty of Arts and Sciences, the Head of the Department of History, Prof. Dr. Celal Öney, took part as the speaker.
During the seminar, while the changing structure of foreign language learning processes in today’s digital age was discussed, the importance of students’ adapting to this process in a more conscious manner was emphasized. Prof. Dr. Celal Öney stated that especially YouTube and various social media platforms offer significant opportunities in foreign language learning, and expressed that through the conscious use of digital content, basic language skills such as listening, speaking, and vocabulary can be improved.
It was also emphasized during the event that digital learning methods are not alternatives to traditional methods, but powerful tools that complement them. Attention was drawn to the opportunities offered by digital resources in terms of enabling students to manage their own learning processes, gain individual learning responsibility, and support their academic development. In the seminar, the importance of foreign language proficiency in terms of both academic success and international opportunities such as Erasmus was also evaluated.
At the end of the program, which was organized by the Muş Alparslan University History Research Community, a certificate of appreciation was presented to Prof. Dr. Celal Öney by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Yegane Çağlayan, the advisor of the community, for his contributions. The seminar, which attracted considerable interest, raised awareness among students about the effective use of digital resources in foreign language learning.
