Faculty Members of the Department of History Participated in the Çorum Symposium

The faculty members of the Department of History, Faculty of Arts and Sciences, Muş Alparslan University, also contributed with their papers to the scientific event titled “The 1st National Symposium on Those Who Left Their Mark on Çorum from Past to Present: Historical Figures,” held on 8–9 May 2026 at the Hitit University Vocational Schools Campus in Çorum under the hosting of Hitit University. The symposium, which aimed to address academically the figures who left their mark on the historical, cultural, and social memory of Çorum, brought together academics and researchers from different universities.

At the symposium organized by the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences of Hitit University, a total of 34 papers were presented in four separate sessions with the participation of academics and researchers from 9 different institutions. Delivering the opening speech of the symposium, Prof. Dr. Zekeriya Işık, Dean of the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, drew attention to the importance of revealing the historical and cultural heritage of Çorum through academic studies and emphasized that the preservation of historical structures and cultural values is a social responsibility.

Within the scope of the symposium, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Serhat Aras Tuna from Muş Alparslan University presented his paper titled “A Study on the Governorship of Erzurum of Mehmed Haydar Pasha of Çorum” in the second session. Dr. Lecturer Esra Çıplak, on the other hand, evaluated the life and intellectual aspect of Mehmet Şakir Çıplak, one of the important figures who contributed to the cultural and intellectual life of Çorum, with her paper titled “A Prominent Figure in the Cultural and Intellectual Life of Çorum: Mehmet Şakir Çıplak” in the third session.

Throughout the symposium, while statesmen, scholars, Sufis, artists, athletes, and figures who contributed to folk culture were addressed from a scientific perspective, the multidimensional evaluation of the historical accumulation of Çorum attracted attention. The participation of the faculty members of the Department of History of Muş Alparslan University in this important scientific event was also significant in terms of increasing the visibility of the department’s academic studies on different platforms.
