The panel titled “What Is Happening in Iran? Life, Politics and War,” organized by the Muş Alparslan University History Research Community, was held on 20 April 2026 at the Prof. Dr. Sabahattin Zaim Conference Hall of Muş Alparslan University. The panel, which aimed to evaluate Iran’s prominent role in regional and global balances in recent years from different aspects, attracted great interest from the participants.
In the panel, Iran was discussed within a multidimensional framework under the headings of life, politics and war. During the event, social issues such as women’s rights, youth movements, the effects of economic sanctions on the middle class, and the changing interpretations of religious rules in daily life were emphasized. In addition, the balance of power between the religious leadership and the presidency, the struggle between reformists and conservatives, and Iran’s strategic moves in regional politics were also evaluated in detail.
One of the remarkable topics of the panel was the direct tensions Iran has recently experienced with the USA and Israel, and the regional and global effects of these tensions. The speakers addressed Iran not merely as a part of the current news flow, but comprehensively together with its historical background, social dynamics and political structure. In the panel, following the presentations in which expert opinions were shared, a question-and-answer session was held and the evaluations and questions of the participants were also included.
The program, carried out with the contributions of Assoc. Prof. Dr. Murat Alanoğlu, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Turgay Şafak and Dr. Mehmet Koç, was coordinated by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Yegâne Çağlayan. The event came to an end by contributing to the evaluation of social, political and regional developments related to Iran from a broader perspective.
