A Double Major and Minor Protocol aimed at supporting students’ academic development in a multidimensional manner was signed between the Department of History and the Department of Philosophy of the Faculty of Arts and Sciences at Muş Alparslan University. Through the protocol signed on 21 April 2026, it is aimed to strengthen academic cooperation at the undergraduate level between the two departments and to enable students to obtain a diploma in a second field.
While the signed protocol determines the principles of the double major and minor processes to be carried out between the History and Philosophy diploma programs, it also constitutes an important step toward enabling students to pursue education in a second major program within the framework of the relevant legislation and university regulations. In this context, the purpose, scope, legal basis, parties, and implementation procedures of the program were set out in detail in the protocol; moreover, the equivalent courses accepted between the two departments and the framework of the courses that students are required to take were also clearly presented.
At its meeting dated 30 April 2026, the Board of the Department of History also discussed the protocol in question, found it appropriate, and unanimously decided to submit the matter to the Dean’s Office. Thus, the institutional basis of this cooperation between the Department of History and the Department of Philosophy has been further strengthened.
It is expected that this new academic cooperation established between two disciplines that nourish one another, such as History and Philosophy, will contribute to students’ gaining knowledge and competence in different fields, developing interdisciplinary perspectives, and expanding their academic opportunities. The protocol is also regarded as an important step in terms of increasing interdepartmental cooperation within the Faculty of Arts and Sciences.
